The beginning...

I have been thinking of writing/expressing something about the terrible Delhi gang rape and other similar incidents.

Having said that, I am disappointed with the way some are reacting to these ever increasing incidences.

I start by drawing the Kind attention of our Brothers, Friends, BFs , Fathers, Husbands and every man in general, Please Stop saying things like – “Forget about it”  or “Don’t pay attention”,  “Why are you getting involved ???” “ It’s not happening with you right, then why bother? “... and a million other statements, which show that you care and love us but your indifference to women in general.

In reality you are not helping... and if you can’t help... then don’t try to stop us.

I know you love us and you are genuinely worried about our safety. But with all due respect, it is because of you and your lack of courage to stand up against these lunatics or letting us stand against them, that leads them to believe that they can get away with what they do.

The only way to put an end to misbehavior or extremes (of it) like rapes is by an individual effort by every girl. Revolt in your way and stand against every human who tries to suppress you or looks at you as an object of pleasure. Do not ignore even if it is eve teasing which is common even in a city like Mumbai.

I say this because today they might not be teasing YOU, but someone else and you can choose to forget about it. But remember, you are encouraging these pests.

Tomorrow, encouraged by your silence, they will go one step ahead and assault another girl, and it could be you.

DO NOT ignore, give it back to those morons.

Do not be selfish. Just take a moment and think, if this will help you or cause more nuisance in the future, because a small effort by each one of us will benefit one girl in the future.

Change can be brought about gradually not overnight. It is stupid to expect people to behave more sensibly with women overnight. If we want it to happen we should make it happen... Just think of all the women who will benefit from this.

We might have had the torturing experience but they have to be safe. Please do not ignore any kind of misbehavior.

It’s clear that one cannot expect the system or law to protect you from any kind of injustice. You have to fight this for yourself and others, not by begging for a cruel punishment after the crime is committed. Power should never be given to one person or killing people is not going to make a difference. Thousands of people have been shot and hanged for different crimes but does that mean they haven’t been repeated??

People ask for a cruel punishment...but how can one define that?? I agree with a friend on this one... 2 minutes of strangling and then death is not even close to what any woman faces during that horrible time. A death penalty will surely help... but it’s after the punishment people get complacent. That is not the solution.  Every woman should be an example...

Women have got to make the world safer, since men have made it so darned unsafe for women.
